Born in the fishing village of Clare Valley on August 19, 1955; Dr. Douglas Slater has always demonstrated a commitment to excellence - in his studies, professional life, and his approach to serving the people of South Leeward. Dr. Slater completed his primary and secondary education in St. Vincent at the Clare Valley and Questelles Government Schools and at the SVG Boys' Grammar School, where he served as Headboy from 1973-74. He went on to achieve a B.Sc (Hons) from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus in 1978 and a medical degree from the University of Havana in 1986. On his return to St. Vincent, he recognized the need for specialization in public health, so he attended the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus from 1991-1992, where he successfully completed the Masters Degree in Public Health Administration.
Dr. Slater has worked in the medical field in Guyana, Jamaica and St.Vincent and the Grenadines. His last appointment in the Public Service was that of Medical Officer of Health (Director of Primary Health Care Service) from 1994 until May, 1998 when he resigned that position.
Dr. Douglas Slater speaks both Spanish and English fluently and is a shining example for all Vincentians to follow. Dr. Slater is married to Dr. Sherian Slater and they have two children, Shane and Sherina.
